A. Do the following problems from Montgomery & Runger, Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers, 2nd edition. You may use any calculators or software you like, but you need to be able to do problems like these either way, so if you have time you should do them on your calculator and check your results in MINITAB.

9-18 [Do a stem-and-leaf plot instead of a probability plot, do an F-test to compare the variances, and omit (d).],
9-38, 9-50.

10-10, 10-26, 10-40, 10-49 [omit (e)], 10-51.

B. Consider the confidence interval formula for a difference in means when variances are known (formula 9-9 on page 383 of the text). Show that for a given n = n1+n2 the width of the interval is minimized when s1/s2 = n1/n2.
