Title: On the logic of finite fields (with an additive character.)
Abstract: A 1968 paper of James Ax determined the first order theory of the class of finite fields, and opened the way for a rich and still lively branch of model theory. I will tell something of this story, and then describe an extension to finite fields equipped with an additive character, $n \mod p \mapsto e^{2 \pi i n/p}$, as used in exponential sums or in the finite Fourier transform. This requires a slight modification of the underlying logic.
