Colloquium - Jonathan Pruitt - Context-dependent group selection

Description

HH/305

Speaker: Jonathan Pruitt (McMaster University)

Title: Context-dependent group selection

Abstract: Just like individual organisms, animal collectives often exhibit characteristic differences in their behavior, both as a result of their genes and experiences. However, the degree to which these differences in collective behavior are important for determining group success and their evolutionary implications remain controversial unknowns. In this presentation we will critically consider the performance consequences of among-group variation in collective behavior and how contrasting environmental conditions may favor one type of animal society versus another.

Coffee and Cookies will be served in the lounge (Hamilton Hall 216) at 3:00 pm. Everyone is welcome.
