Research Profile: History of modern mathematics
The history of modern mathematics (i.e. mathematics since 1800) is a field that is now being heavily researched by many professional historians of mathematics. It is a field that requires a strong mathematics background combined with historical sophistication. My own research is in the history of logic and set theory since 1800. However, I have also written on the history of linear algebra in the early 20th century and am at present supervising a doctoral dissertation on the history of general topology during the same period. My interests incline especially to investigating the interactions between different branches of modern mathematics, such as linear algebra and set theory. I am on the editorial board of Historia Mathematica, the foremost international journal in the history of mathematics.
