Network Access for Department Members' Laptops
Physical Network Connections
Your laptop will need its own permanent network address in order for you to use a wired connection; use the form below to apply.
Note that most offices and graduate-student areas have only one network jack per desk, so you will likely need a network switch. Switches are available from the department, at cost to faculty and free to graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.

Wireless Network Connections
Hamilton Hall has MacSecure and MacConnect wireless access throughout as of April, 2005; this is the same UTS-managed wireless access found across most of the campus. Anyone with a MAC ID account can use the MacConnect network; UTS has a full description with instructions for use.
Note that MacSecure is available wherever MacConnect is. MacSecure should be used instead of MacConnect as the former 1) remembers passwords; 2) doesn't require an attempted web connection in order to login; 3) encrypts all traffice; 4) doesn't block ssh or Windows file and printer sharing.
The Math & Stats offices in the Burke Science Building basement do not have a good MacSecure/MacConnect signal. Send email to the system administrators if you would like to use MathBSB wireless network.
Note that the AirPort network called 'math' was discontinued for general on July 1st, 2005 and is now used only for short-term guest use.
