Servers

The following general-purpose servers are available to researchers and graduate students in the department:

The two general-purpose compute servers are bluespruce and bayes: bayes is primarily for statistical computing and bluespruce for everything else.

Researchers and graduate students also have access to the SHARCNET super-computing clusters at McMaster and partner instutions.

Access

All users with ms.mcmaster.ca accounts can connect via ssh and sftp.

Description

ms.mcmaster.ca in the central server for the department: it handles email, web sites, authentication, holds most home directories and provides access to files and software via sftp, AFP (shares unix folders to OS X) and samba (shares unix folders to Windows). There is no computing software on ms.mcmaster.ca: one should log into it only to read mail, access files, etc.

Description

Anatloius is a single-cpu server with 4Gb of RAM. It is not suitable for running many concurrent jobs, but it is our most persistent server - in the event of a power interruption, anatolius can be suspended and restarted without jobs and memory being lost (anatolius is actuall a virtual server).

Description

Redpine is unavailble at present.

Redpine is the department's secondary statistical-computing server (primary server is bayes). S-Plus and SAS have been moved to bayes.
