Financial Information for
Graduate Students in the
Department of Mathematics & Statistics

 

All applications received by February 1 are automatically considered for financial support and scholarships. Financial support is normally guaranteed for students in good academic standing as follows:

  • 16 months for MSc Statistics students
  • 16 months for MSc Math coursework students
  • 20 months for thesis MSc Math thesis or project students
  • Four years for PhD Math students.

In 2008/09 graduate students in Mathematics and Statistics were funded through a combination of Departmental Scholarships and Teaching Assistantships and were provided a minimum annual income of:

  • $15,600 for Math MSc students
  • $15,600 for Stats MSc students
  • $20,380 for Math PhD students

These are sufficient for covering normal students' costs, such as tuition and associated fees, housing, books, etc.

There are a number of excellent scholarship opportunities for new and continuing students in our department, including:

  • NSERC CGS scholarships ($17,500 for MSc, $35,000 for PhD)
  • NSERC PGS scholarships ($17,300 for MSc, $21,000 for PhD)
  • OGS & OGSST scholarships ($15,000)

Scholarship students remain eligible for Departmental Research Scholarships and Teaching Assistantships.
