MATLAB Back up at 8pm Thursday
The MATLAB license server - which was down due to a power outage of several hours in ABB - came back up at 8PM; MATLAB has been accessible again since then.

MATLAB License Server Still Unavailable
The power in ABB was turned back on at 6:12 pm this evening, but the MATLAB license server is still unavailable.
MATLAB Unavailable from 4pm to 6pm Thursday
MATLAB will not be available on Math & Stats servers and workstations today from 4pm to 6pm as Facility Services has shut off the power for the ABB server room (which is where the license server lives) in order to complete some work.
Scanner Now Completely Fixed
The HH-303 scanner is no longer adding streaks to images when one uses the automatic document feeder. The jamming problem with the ADF was fixed last week.

Clever Phishing Spam: "Scan from a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet"
A phishing message purporting to be a "Scan from a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet" has hit some McMaster addresses recently.
Don't click the "Download" link, needless to say ... it's actually a link to a spyware payload.

Spam Warning: "Tutoring material" / "FIRE INSTRUCTION NOTICE" / "Fire Safety Guidance"
Some interesting spam reached a few inboxes on mathmail.mcmaster.ca today. The subject is "RE:Tutoring material for a scheduled event" and it notifies the reader of "a joint event with Fire and Counter Terrorism Safety". It's signed by "Ann" from "Department of Human Resources."
Needless to say, the message is fake and you should not open the attached "Fire Safety Guidance.pdf.zip" file - it contains spyware.

Feeder Jamming on HH-303 Scanner
The automatic document feeder for the HH-303 HPLJ 4345 scanner is jamming fairly consistently. I've notified the service people, who are already scheduled to come fix another problem with the ADF.
If you need to scan sever pages, use the flat-bed scanner with "Job Build" mode on so that all the pages arrive in a single PDF file.

Streaks from HH-303 Networked Scanner
The HPLJ 4345 printer/scanner outside of HH-303 is producing coloured streaks on images scanned using the automatic document feeder. We had a service technician in last week and we are now waiting on parts; things should be sorted out within a week.
Scans made on the scanner bed are not streaked, You can use "job mode" if you wish to scan several pages into a single PDF file using the flat-bed scanner.

Web Site Down Briefly Thursday AM
The websites on ms.mcmaster.ca - most importantly www.math.mcmaster.ca and mathmail.mcmaster.ca - were down from 11:20 to 11:26 this morning due to some temporary conflicts resulting from software updates. Incoming and outgoing mail were not effected, only access via the webmail interface.
