MacConnect Wireless Slow

University Technology Services has confirmed that MacConnect wireless is having troubles - the main symptom is a general slowness.

Fake "Conflicker.B Infection Alert" Messages

Dozens of math mail accounts have received messages with the subject "Conflicker.B Infection Alert" purporting to be from Microsoft and carrying an attachment with a supposed disinfection tool; most but not all instances are being caught be the spam filter. This message is itself a worm vector and should be deleted.

MATLAB License Errors: Fixed (again)

We ran into more problems with the new MATLAB license server. We've gone back to the previous configuration and so this morning's MATLAB problems are resolved.

Purge of Old MATLAB, Maple, R Versions

I will be removing some of the older versions Maple (ver. <= 11), MATLAB (ver. <= 2007b) and R (ver. < 2.9.2) from the compute servers and linux workstations next week; let me know if you need one of these old versions for specific research or instructional reasons. I will be installing R 2.10.0 and MATLAB 2009b at the same time.

Internet Sluggish Today

The connection between the campus network and the rest of the internet is slow. UTS tells me that our up-stream provider is working on it. Enjoy that mid-90s feel.

MATLAB License Problems Corrected

We are making changes to the campus MATLAB license server which led to some problems with MATLAB timing out or not starting. Those problems are fixed.

Waiting for Replacement Part to Fix Blurry HH-303 Printing

The HH-303 printer is producing blurry print. A new fuser unit has been ordered and should be installed by a technician on Thursday or Friday. If you need clear print in the meanwhile, use the HH-403 printer.
