HH-403 Printer Down

The HH-403 printer did not come up properly after last night's power outage and is not working; it appears that a component received electrical damage. I will start testing components on Friday.

Campus Power Outage

The power went out on campus from ca. 8:30 to 8:50 Wednesday evening. Mathserv and some of the compute servers coasted through on backup power; other systems and most workstations will need to be restarted on Thursday morning.

Email Stuck from 12:30 to 4:00 This Afternoon

Email was not being delivered from ca. 12:30 pm to 3:45 pm today. Mail is flowing again; no messages should have been lost. Since some mail clients were failing silently - mine, for example - so the problem was not immediately apparent.

Server and Systems Back Online

Mathserv is back up as of 5:12pm after the announced downtime for a memory upgrade.

Network Problem at 1:30 Today

The network name servers were down intermittently for a few minutes at a time early this afternoon, causing web, email and system problems.

Scheduled Mathserv Downtime Wednesday Afternoon

I will be shutting mathserv down at 4:45 on Wednesday afternoon for a memory upgrade; it should be back up by 5:15pm. Web, email and linux workstation access will be down for the duration.

Bayes Rebooted

Bayes was rebooted at ca. 3:30pm today in order to clear up a memory problem.

New Mail Certificate

The security certificate on the mail server has been updated to use the name mail.math.mcmaster.ca (as documented) instead of mathserv. You will need to tell your mail client to accept this new certificate; you may need to change your imap settings, too.
