New Spam Filtering Setup
We have introduced a new spam-filtering configuration for the departmental server. We're still using SpamAssassin to identify spam and procmail to filter mail, but we have added improved backscatter filtering, a duplicate-message filter, a rationalized folder scheme and automatic daily archiving.
To use the new setup, run the command activate-mail-filter on mathserv or your linux workstation.

Network Problems Resolved, it Appears
The network problem at noon time lasted about ten minutes but appear to be over.

It appears that we are having some intermittent problems connecting to off-campus network addresses - the problem is broader than just Hamilton Hall, so there's nothing we can do but wait it out.

Systems Up After Power Outage (Take 2)
The systems were back up on Monday morning just after 9 o'clock following the scheduled power outage by Facility Services on Sunday evening. Sunday's backups were caught up on Monday night..

Systems Up After Power Outage
Mathserv came alive again at 9 am. The other servers and workstations are able to boot as of 9:10 am. Don't forget that we do this again Sunday evening through Monday morning.
