We've been informed that Hamilton Hall will be disconnected from the network this Sunday morning:
Technology Services, Enterprise Networks, has scheduled a network service interruption for Sunday May 7th, to carry out maintenance on the fibre plant. This work is necessary in order to upgrade the networking in Residence (MacOnline) later this Spring.
Web Service
I will bring a copy of www.math.mcmaster.ca up on our backup server in ABB late Friday afternoon and return service to mathserv on Monday morning. This means that the web site will be available through the downtime but that changes will not take effect until Monday.
Email
Email will not be accessible during the downtime. Inbound mail will be queued for delivery when mathserv is accessible on the network again.
Workstations
The workstations in Hamilton Hall should continue to operate but will not have access to the internet. The workstations in T13-109 will not work while mathserv is inaccessible.
SSH Access
While the Hamilton Hall network is down, you will not be able to ssh to mathserv or any other Math & Stats server. Any existing connections will be dropped. If you'd like to start a session and leave it running, consider using the under-appreciated magic of the good ol'
screen command.
