Brief Network Problem

There was a problem with the campus DNS servers today at around 2:00 pm which caused all sorts of minor problems: web pages failing to come up, matlab license-server failures, mail-client failures, etc. Apparently the DNS servers were struggling with the filters that block virus-infected computers from the network, this following another bout of infections earlier today.
A bit more info from UTS:
We've had a flood of infected systems today (short description below). Blocking ports of upwards of 100 machines gave rise to a problem with an overly large control list, which had to be pruned so that the routers didn't get indigestion (there were a few minutes when your building network couldn't talk to the core).
