The msprime workstations are, in general, performing better now that we are working off of the backup server (mathserv2) than they were when we were using the similarly configured primary server, though there are intermittent problems. I've been seeing load spikes on mathserv2 between one and six times per day, each spike lasting between 30 to 120 seconds. During these load spikes, msprime workstations slow down or grind to a halt and mail access is sluggish. As yet, I haven't isolated a cause; the behaviour is not the same as was seen with mathserv when very large fiile transfers were in progress.

The webmail interface at mail.math.mcmaster.ca is back online as of Monday at 5:00 pm. Webmail stopped working after the move to the backup server because some requisite software needed to be reinstalled. This is still in the testing phase - it won't always be up. And do let me know if you like having a webmail interface, and what you think of SquirrelMail in particular.
