INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Communications in Statistics is reproduced by electronic publication. It is therefore essential that all accepted papers be prepared properly. Authors are required to submit manuscripts in accordance with the version of author guidelines posted at http://www.math.mcmaster.ca/bala/comstat/typing.html. Although Communications in Statistics is an international journal, the contents are limited to the English language, and the author is solely responsible for the correctness of spelling and grammar in the article.

All papers for Communications in Statistics should have a potential application to real world problems. Each paper should state its purpose clearly in the introduction. A condition of submission is that the paper is not and will not be considered by any other journal while it is under consideration by Communications in Statistics. If the article is a survey paper, in addition to stating this fact clearly, it should contain a thorough coverage of materials already in print by citing references to the related work. Copies of all inaccessible references (unpublished papers, technical reports, etc.) should accompany the submission, preferably in duplicate. Receipt of papers will be acknowledged, and if the receipt does not come within a reasonable time, authors are urged to re-contact the Editor-in-Chief.

Authors should send a letter of transmittal and three copies of the paper and a disk containing the submitted paper (in the required format) to the following address:

Communications in Statistics
Prof. N. Balakrishnan
Department of Mathematics and Statistics
McMaster University
1280 Main Street West
Hamilton, Ontario L8S 4K1
CANADA
(Please specify for Theory & Methods or Simulation & Computation)

The computer diskette should be labeled with your name, the operating systems and software version used, the title of your article and the title of the journal. Please include the names and current contact information (including e-mail addresses), for all contributing authors, abstract and article outline as separate files.

The Editor will issue a Manuscript Number for the submitted manuscript and transmit the manuscript number with an acknowledgement to the author and the associate editor handling the paper. Please always use the manuscript (MS) number when making inquiries regarding a specific paper. Authors are also encouraged to include an e-mail address for quick responses.

If a paper has been submitted previously to another journal, it is absolutely required that the author disclose this fact and send the editor copies of all correspondence and referee reports that were received. This is necessary because the size of the pool of referees for a given paper is not large, and it is extremely likely that a person could be asked to referee the same paper for two different journals. If the author has made revisions to the paper or disagrees with anything in the previous reports, a statement should be made regarding the author's position. Sometimes the facts brought out are such that the Editor-in-Chief will be justified in accepting a paper without further refereeing. Because referees and associate editors donate their time reading papers for the good of the profession, it is incumbent upon authors to prepare the best possible manuscript. It is imperative that authors search all of the issues of the Current Index of Statistics and other sources for any pertinent references and carefully prepare the paper so as to eliminate spelling and grammatical errors.

**Please contact the Editorial Office for any questions regarding submissions.
