Welcome to the Department of Mathematics & Statistics website. In it you will find information on all of the many activities that the Department supports. We are one of the larger departments on campus, with about 37 full-time faculty, 19 postdoctoral fellows, 86 graduate students and 8 staff members. The Department has strong research groups in several areas of mathematics and statistics and it offers a growing number of programmes of study at the undergraduate and graduate level. For example, we recently introduced a co-op undergraduate programme in mathematics & statistics, and the field of financial mathematics has been added to our MSc and PhD mathematics programmes.

During the Fall of 2003 the Department relocated to the James Stewart Centre for Mathematics in the newly renovated Hamilton Hall. This historic building on campus has retained its classic exterior but has been completely modernized inside. The new facility will allow the Department to create an integrated teaching, research and outreach centre to enhance the visibility, linkages and impact of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University.
